Capital Projects and Facilities

Our vision for serving the people of our community depends upon facilities that match the talents and aspirations of those who will use them, and that place priority on the well-being and safety of our students and faculty.

Ever increasing numbers of students and patients at UNM means that the need for space is growing critical. Physical space for students to study together, and help one another through the twists and turns of academic life, is a vital motivator. Well-maintained and planned buildings strategically advance the environment for learning and for superior patient care in our health facilities. At UNM we celebrate our sense of place—location, geography, cultures and climate—so the aesthetics of our physical facilities play an essential role in building community and promoting sustainable study, work, living and clinical environments. As buildings are refurbished, rebuilt, or constructed, we must plan them in ways that contribute to connecting people together across the University, to making a positive impact regarding our sense of place in the Southwest, and to cultivating interaction among our UNM community.

Current proposed projects to improve education and outreach to the community include the Anderson School of Management, the interdisciplinary Math and Science Learning Center, the UNM Cancer Center at HSC, UNM West Medical Facilities, a new HSC Center for Development and Disabilities, and the Pit. Each of these capital projects, and more in the planning stage, help UNM meet our long-range objectives of maximizing our physical plant to improve interaction with our community.
