Lives Changed: Kelly Donahue-Wallace
When Kelly Donahue-Wallace arrived at UNM College of Fine Arts, she immediately caught the research bug. It changed her life. She has never forgotten the new worlds that were opened to her.
For almost three-quarters of a century, UNM College of Fine Arts has taught something extraordinary: applied imagination. This is where the mind and the heart intersect.
The human drive to create, to think, to reflect—to elevate beauty for beauty’s sake—drives programs that are about using both halves of the brain, being balanced and flexible, being able to take on any challenge. We train artists and dancers, musicians and photographers, actors, filmmakers and scholars—but, through our creative and vibrant curricula, we also train innovators and entrepreneurs. Not all graduates will make a life in the arts, but all of them will bring intellectual curiosity and passion to whatever career calls to them.
The College of Fine Arts encompasses an amazing range of programs. Cutting-edge film and digital media. A legendary photography program. An acclaimed department of art and art history with first-rate painting, sculpture and electronic arts programs. Stellar theater and dance. Innovative music programs. In addition, the College also powers a vibrant community connection, including New Mexico’s largest museum folk art collection, music ensembles involving hundreds of community members, and a rich calendar of more than 3,000 art and performance events each year.
Behind it all is an exceptional interdisciplinary environment of teaching, research and creativity where boundaries disappear as quickly as new ideas arise. Your support is needed now to fully realize the possibilities afforded by this engaged and engaging school.
The list of vital needs in the College is as long as the list of people who pursue knowledge within and beyond its walls, but there are some common threads: endowed support for creative faculty and visiting scholars; funding for innovative programs and initiatives; and vital graduate student support. The College’s vision for cutting-edge arts education in New Mexico is clear, and now is your moment to help power that vision.
