College of Pharmacy

College of Pharmacy

UNM College of Pharmacy graduates are vital members of the health care team who can be found in hospitals, clinics, research labs—pharmacists play a role in any setting where health care and health discovery take place.

As the place where the health sciences join the biological and chemical sciences in service to the people of New Mexico, the College is home to dynamic education for a diverse student body, providing patient care training unlike any other school in the nation. This unique education, combined with significant research and discovery, creates world-changing results.

Beyond training student pharmacists, many of the UNM College of Pharmacy faculty conduct leading-edge research. Just one example: the College is the birthplace of radiopharmacy (sometimes called Nuclear Pharmacy).

One Profession, Many Practices

For 65 years, UNM College of Pharmacy has been changing worlds large and small, globally and locally. From breakthroughs in drug discovery and delivery that directly benefit the patient, to the study of environmental hazards and their effects on the people of our state and our nation, the College ranks in the top third of America’s schools of pharmacy for NIH research funding—and aspires to the top 10.

The College is also a respected training ground for student pharmacists, a launching pad for a wide range of careers. Our diverse learning community includes the country’s second-highest number of Native American pharmacy students and the third-highest number of Hispanic students. Nearly seven of every 10 pharmacists practicing in New Mexico are UNM College of Pharmacy graduates.

Now Is Your Moment

The list of vital needs in the College is as long as the list of people who pursue knowledge within and beyond its walls, but there are some common threads: support for minority students; funding for environmental health initiatives; support for UNM-pioneered isotope-based research and medical treatment. The College’s vision for cutting-edge pharmacy education in New Mexico is clear, and now is your moment to help power that vision.

It’s 86 miles on a dirt road, or 146 miles on the pavement, from Albuquerque to the Alamo Navajo reservation, but it can seem much farther than that. Tischa Becker knows the road by heart.
