Harwood Museum of Art

Founded in 1923, the Harwood Museum of Art is the first museum established in Taos and the second-oldest museum in New Mexico. In 1935 the Harwood became part of the University of New Mexico. The museum's rich collection includes works from the 18th Century to the present, featuring

  • Taos Society of Artists including Joseph Sharp and Victor Higgins
  • American Modernists including John Marin and Marsden Hartley
  • Taos Moderns including Andrew Dasburg, Earl Stroh and Emil Bisttram
  • Hispanic works representing the aesthetic traditions of northern New Mexico
  • The Agnes Martin Gallery
  • Contemporary American and Taos artist including Ken Price and Melissa Zink

The museum presents exhibitions from its permanent art collection, special changing exhibitions of regional artists, and shows by important international artists. Through its active education program and public programming, the Harwood plays a critical role in stimulating learning and creativity for youth and adults, and through its archives and collection enables research and academic advancement.
